Teaching Obedience - A Key to Child Rearing

What would the world be like without children? Most of us have fulfilled our great life's work because we had disciplined parents. Parents are like stimulants and stabilizers for their children. However, what is it like for children who are heady and whose hearts are ruled by stubborness?

Of course, the consequences is frustration and fatique for parents with such children.

Catherine Booth, the founders of Salvation Army concluded in one of her writings that teaching obedience was key to child rearing. According to Mrs Booth(1860), ''obedience to properly constituted authority is the foundation of all moral excellence, not only in childhood, but all the way through life. And the secret of a great deal of the lawlesness of these times, both towards GOD and man, is that these people were never taught to submit to the authority of their parents, and now you may convince them ever so clearly that it is their duty and would be their happiness to submit to GOD, but their unrestrained unsubdued wills have been accustomed to submit to anybody and it is like beginning to break in a wild horse in old age. The great majority of children are ruined for the formation of character before they are five years old by the indulgence of their mothers.''

All things considered, bringing up children to obey authority and doing right is much better than many sacrifices made on behalf of our children.
