Hello, I want to highlight the concept of morale and effectiveness.
Morale has been thought of variously ‘as a feeling, a state of mind, a mental attitude and as an emotional attitude(Mendel 1987). Another author Bentley and Rempel (1980) conceptualises morale as the professional interest and enthusiasm that a person displays towards the achievement of individual and group goals in a given job situation.
It is believed that a healthy school environment will concomitantly produce a high teacher’s morale. Teachers feel good about each other and at the same time feel a sense of accomplishment from their jobs.
So, why is teacher’s morale and effectiveness important?
To begin, teachers morale has a positive effect on students attitudes and learning.
Raising morale and effectiveness does not necessarily imply making teachers more pleasant but rather to be more pleasant for learners.
Really, it has far reaching implication for student learning, the health of the organization and the health of the teacher. For instance, a teacher with low level of satisfaction and morale leads to a decrease in teacher productivity, loss of concern for and detachment from co-workers.
Further, there are ample evidence that indicate low levels of morale reduces quality of teaching and causes depression both for the teacher and student.
