Loyalty - A New Teaching Methodology

Students learn effectively when a lesson is delivered logically. Good teaching involves observing what students are doing. If, they are excited about the subject matter and know why they are doing whatever, then there is some good teaching going on. The primary objective of a teacher is to discern how a learner can assimilate a concept. My thirty years experience as a teacher has revealed the fact that few teachers fail to adequately remain loyal to their students especially when the learner is challenged with emotional and learning difficulties. Such teachers give up too soon when they realize a student is below the required I-Q test.

There are appropriate operational techniques or methods of teaching used during lesson presentation. These include:

discovery method
lecture method
questioning method
discussion method
peer conferencing
drama method
research method
project method
experimental method
games and simulations
play method
assignment method
deductive method
inductive method
class method
group method
Selection of these methods are based on lesson objectives and the nature of the subject-matter. Undoubtedly, if these methods are adhered to religiously,an enthusiastic teacher is most likely to motivate the student. However, how long can a teacher sustain a learner's motivation? Apart from the methodologies enumerated above, loyalty must be included in the list of teaching methods.

What is loyalty?

It means to be supportive, faithful or committed to somebody. You need good quality feelings to be a loyal person. The secret of learning effectiveness is to teach, assist the student patiently and be consistent in your support. If a teacher does not throw in the towel when challenged by students with emotional and learning disability, such disorders will gradually face out. The student in due time also understands the subject-matter.

Teaching is a life long process and it takes time to grasp and assimilate a subject. When teachers are loyal to their students and if they do not take the lion's share of the lesson, student's motivation is continuous and learning becomes effective.

The Way Out

Teachers are not perfect but the practise and implementation of loyalty to our students can lead to improvement. I believe that students who create challenges on our path are not bad at all. I think the genesis of their problem is based on the fact that 'they do not know better' and teachers need to go an extra mile to give them full support. Tough students can achieve positive learning outcomes when teachers pledge their loyalty to them. Open up their hearts to learn, not literally but by helping them to unlearn their negative beliefs. Teach, teach and teach until the concepts become absorbent in their young minds. In the end, your loyalty method of teaching will germinate a positive behavioral changes.

Conclusion

It is important to note that the teacher is considered a factor influencing teaching.Teaching experience depends to a large extent on the teachers personal qualities and methods of lesson delivery. A teacher's enthusiasm and loyalty correlates to pupils achievement and sustained motivation
